Foulweather Bluff Preserve Trail, Hansville

Seeking a day trip picnic or rainy day boot stomp? Hit the trail at the Foulweather Bluff Preserve in Hansville. I used to take my little ones here all the time and then forgot about what a gem this spot is.

The quick hike leads to a lovely wide sandy beach at the mouth of a marshy wetland. The trail winds through Douglas-fir, cedar, hemlock and alder along a broad wetland meadow. Be on the lookout for shorebirds and waterfowl as you hike.

At the beach you'll find a profusion of russet hued Pacific madrone adorning a sheer bluff. Look for shells and crabs along the shoreline and enjoy a broad view of the Olympic Mountains to the west. Parking can be tricky on busy (sunny) days. You will have to park on the widened shoulder at the trail head. The trailhead itself isn't well marked so look for a gap in the trees just north

of the wetland on the west side of the road.

This area is a nature preserve. Dogs and fires are not allowed.

There is something here for all seasons. Bring a kite!... and let the kids and adult-kids R-U-N!

Get out there and explore already!
